Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Logistics: Warehouse Assistant you would observe and may assist under direct supervision of qualified staff in the tasks and duties to load and unload trucks, sort and place merchandise on shelves. You would also be responsible for ensuring the warehouse is kept orderly and clean, and that goods are secured properly. Assisting with on-site deliveries are a requirement. Retail tasks in the main showroom will also be included in this placement.

The student will observe and may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
• Follow work health and safety procedures.
• Package goods.
• Pick and process orders.
• Receive goods.
• Identify products and store to specifications.
• Despatch stock.
• Participate in stocktakes.
• Apply quality procedures.
• Use communications systems.
• Process workplace documentation.
• Apply accident-emergency procedures.
• Load and unload goods/cargo.
• Use info-technology devices in the workplace.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Logistics Industry as a Warehouse Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their secondary school subjects relating to Warehouse Assistant.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Logistics Industry as a Warehouse Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented and will be required to attend work in the following work attire;
• Work boots.
• Work pants or shorts.
• Staff issued shirt.
• No inappropriate slogans or ripped clothing.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
