The Vic Hotel Woodend
We are looking for a passionate Apprentice Chef to join our growing team at a community focused pub. This is a fantastic opportunity to train and grow your trade under an amazing team of qualified chefs.
Our food offering services - 110 seat bistro, bar area, 2 function spaces and takeaway pizza. You must be available for evening shifts & weekends. All meals included.
The Vic's Executive Chef, Carl Middleton, has worked as a head chef at some of the largest and most exclusive hotel chains around the world, including The Hilton. He brings his expertise and passion for locally grown produce to The Vic at Woodend. The Vic incorporates a bar and bistro, take away drive through wood-fired pizza operation and an upstairs function room.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Your role will include:
- Assisting cooks/chefs in the preparation and cooking of meals
- Actively learning kitchen procedures and duties in preparation to become a fully qualified cook
- Work under the supervision, operates standard cooking equipment such as cooking appliances, mixers, steamers, toasters, choppers, fryers, ovens and stoves
- Obtains food supplies from store rooms and/or refrigerators
- Maintaining a clean and sanitised work station
- Following kitchen standard operating procedures
- Participate in training sessions as advised by the department manager and then apply these learnings in the workplace
You will be:
- Has entry level cooking experience
- Is punctual and able to follow instructions
- Enjoys working as part of a team
- Is able to communicate clearly
- Shares a passion for the hospitality industry
- Knowledge and food safety requirements is an advantage
Student Requirements
Students must be undertaking VET hospitality and have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in cooking.
Students should be punctual, able to communicate well with other employees and show genuine enthusiasm to learn the craft of cooking.
Dress Requirements
If students have a chef's uniform, they can wear this. If not, a black t-shirt, apron and pants plus closed-in shoes is acceptable.
Special Transport Requirements
Students can access this placement which is a 5 minute walk from the train station.
