Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will be responsible for the following tasks.

- Assisting Wimmera Construction trained staff with related building and construction activities
- Engaging with customers related to building and construction activities as advised by Wimmera Construction trained staff.
- Completing all related tasks as assigned by assisting Wimmera Construction trained staff

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their Industry and Enterprise subject and/or in their VET course in Building and Construction.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students may undertake tasks and typical duties only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and the structured workplace learning will allow them to obtain or further develop the skills and knowledge outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
- Students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in Work Related Skills or the OH&S module in the relevant VET course, along with a completed White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Students are required to have a keen interest in the Building & Construction Industry.
- Work will be physical, and at times, outside and students must remain at ground level and take no risks when power equipment and/or machines are in operation.
- Students must not use plant or equipment that pose an unacceptable risk to their health or safety, or which require extensive training or experience to use safely.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team. This includes notifying the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absence.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal break
- Students are to complete any applicable relevant course work and/or Workplace Learning Record entries as outlined in the SWL Arrangement.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements will be discussed with the successful student prior to commencement.
Students will need to wear long pants and shirts, and protective work boots. A hat is essential for working outdoors. Appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with WHS policy and procedure.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
