This is a great opportunity for a student studying a hospitality certificate. This well known, nationally recognised, busy bakery in Ararat is offering a student the SWL position of an all-rounder. The successful student will be offered training to learn hospitality skills and be given the opportunity to learn to bake and clean. The team at Bakers Delight Ararat will work with the student and provide training in a variety of hospitality experiences and customer service relations. Students will gain the opportunity to work in a busy and demanding bakery environment with highly skilled professionals. This opportunity can result in ongoing employment for students, suiting a school leaver wanting to begin their career in Hospitality. Skills You Might Learn
Ability to communicate verbally, and understand and follow written and verbal instructions is a requirement and other skills attained are:
- Technical skills in preparation and handling of all kinds of bakery products.

- Experience and familiarity with general food service and customer service functions.
- Exposure to hospitality related functions in a professional environment.
- Broader understanding of what a hospitality and food service role involves on a day-to-day basis.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
Students may assist or observe trained staff with the following activities:
- Fill and maintain presentation of stock.
- Stock or sell products.
- Help in the bakery or customer service when required.
- Ensure that the clients are served in a friendly and efficient manner.
- Provide services to meet a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Responsible for maintaining the standard in terms of sales and quality.
- Responsible for packaging, labelling and merchandising bakery products.
- Responsible for displaying products to ensure maximum impact, being aware of customer needs and behaviour.
- Provide services to meet a high level of customer satisfaction.
- General cleaning requirements.
Student Requirements
Students are required to demonstrate a positive attitude towards Hospitality- with a keen eye for detail, who are self-motivated, have a consistent and good work ethic, and are willing to listen and follow instructions. Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in Hospitality, Retail and/or Kitchen Operations.
The following requirements must be met:
- Students may undertake tasks and typical duties only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and the structured workplace learning will allow them to obtain or further develop the skills and knowledge outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
- Students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Students must be able to work in a faced paced work environment and have an understanding that friendly customer service is important.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Punctuality is important and any planned or unplanned absences must be reported to both the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher.
- Students should only undertake this SWL placement if they are motivated and willing to actively participate in tasks and duties that will enhance their employability skills.
- Students are to complete any applicable relevant course work and/or Workplace Learning Record as outlined in the SWL Arrangement.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
To be discussed with the employer at the preplacement interview. Students are required to wear neat casual clothing as appropriate for the hospitality industry. Closed toe shoes will be required. All Personal Protective Equipment must be worn in accordance with the workplace procedures.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
