Eventide Lutheran Homes provide high quality accommodation and supportive care to aged people. It is very supportive of the SWL program and a placement as a Food Services Assistant will help you gain hands on experience working in an industrial kitchen as well as engaging with residents. Ongoing education, training and support will be provided.
Skills You Might Learn
Community services students will be able to gain skills and confidence communicating with the elderly and working in collaboration with other staff members. Gain practical experience with food safety practices. Gain skills with food preparation and delivery to residents. Understanding the importance of food textures for residents and meal planning.
Typical Tasks & Duties
SWL students will assist with the preparing and serving of meals according to the residents dietary requirements. Students will be asked to observe and participate in simple kitchen duties. Students will be observing and actively participating in food preparation as well as delivery of meals to residents. Students will help keep the work space and equipment clean and hygienic. Assisting with serving meals and communicating with residents.
Student Requirements
Students should have a keen interest in the food industry and have respect and compassion for the elderly who live there. They should also have a strong sense of teamwork and confidentiality.
Dress Requirements
Modest Top Black Pants Closed Toe - comfortable work shoes. Long hair tied back/up.
Special Transport Requirements
Workplace is accessible by town bus, and is within town limits if required to walk/ride.
