Garfield Golf Club, is one of the renowned courses of the West Gippsland golfing region, and offers anyone with an interest in horticulture and maintenance of a golf course a fantastic opportunity. There is also opportunity for an apprenticeship in turf management to the right student.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will have the chance to develop skills and understanding in:
Various maintenance practices used on a progressive golf course.
The safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
The safe operating of side by side utility vehicles.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will gain a variety of experiences in the Golf Industry. These include:
Assist with landscape construction work.
Operate side by side utility vehicles,
Maintaining turf and grounds
How to work effectively in the industry
Use manual and power tools eg, leaf blower, whipper snipper
Operate basic machinery and equipment
Some manual labour and basic work such as picking up sticks and debris on the golf course will be also required.
If interested, there may be opportunity to repair and maintain machinery as employer is a trained mechanic.
Student Requirements
A willingness to be flexible, learn and follow instructions. Please check with employer regarding any COVID safe practices and immunisation requirements before starting placement.
Dress Requirements
suitable for outdoor work, long pants, and work shoes.
Special Transport Requirements
Students to arrange their own transport. It is a 10 minute walk from the Garfield train station.
