St Vincent’s Care Services in Eltham features an extensive 16 acres of tranquil, flat parklands and gardens which are enjoyed by residents, their families and visitors. The Day Therapy centre onsite provides a range of services including Physio, Speech and Occupational Therapies. The staff here are also very supportive of Secondary School students undertaking VET studies in related fields (such as Allied Health).

This is also an excellent opportunity to work on your teamwork, communication and time management skills, in a Health and Community Services environment.

Skills You Might Learn

Aligned with Cert III Allied Health Assistance – Assist with movement, follow food safety practices, recognise healthy body systems, etc.

Aligned with Cert III Individual Support – Contribute to leisure and health programming, facilitate individual service planning and delivery, facilitate the empowerment of older people and people with disability, meet personal support needs,

Across both qualifications – Workplace Health and Safety, communicate and work in health / community services environment, comply with infection prevention and control.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students on placement will shadow various staff in the centre as they support the clients with their support needs. This may include observing assessments, setting up spaces and preparing equipment for group therapy sessions, demonstrating movements and therapies where appropriate, general cleaning and maintenance of activity areas, etc.

Student Requirements

Best suited to students undertaking Cert III in Allied Health Assistance or Community Services.

Dress Requirements

Closed toed, comfortable shoes, suitable for extended periods of standing / walking. Long pants. Discreet jewellery and make up. Long hair to be tied back.

Special Transport Requirements

Venue is close to bus and train access.
Travel Form WILL NOT be required for this placement.
