Typical Tasks & Duties

Students may undertake tasks and typical duties only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and the structured workplace learning will allow them to obtain or further develop the skills and knowledge outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
Students may assist or observe trained staff with the following activities:
- Assisting trained staff with related customer service tasks as instructed.
- Engaging in manual labour.
- Completing all tasks as assigned by trained staff.
This student placement will include duties such as helping the workplace supervisor and other employees to assist them in their roles (in accordance with VET certificate assessments).
Students will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices under the supervision of the workplace supervisor. The business has a team of diverse occupations, and this gives the student an excellent chance to be hands on a lot of the time in a variety of job roles- business administration and agricultural services.

Student Requirements

Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Students are required to have a keen interest in Agricultural Business services.
- Students must enjoy practical and manual work and be able to bend and lift using safe manual handling techniques.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Punctuality is important and any planned or unplanned absences must be reported to both the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher.
- Students should only undertake this SWL placement if they are motivated and willing to actively participate in tasks and duties that will enhance their employability skills.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. All Personal Protective Equipment required to complete daily tasks and duties will be discussed with the student as part of the placement induction.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form. Attendance: This opportunity will be open for students to attend according to the availability and workload of the host employer. The placement period must be negotiated with Teacher, Student and Employer- Forms required before commencement are Ministerial Order 1412 - Structured Workplace Learning Arrangements; Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement Form; and Structured Workplace Learning Guidelines for Employers. A typical day in the store will consist of the hours 9.00am -3.30pm. If there are opportunities for the student to travel with the workplace supervisor on farm consultancy visits, an earlier start or later finish will be required.
