Skills You Might Learn

Students may have the chance to develop skills/understanding in:

- Broader understanding of what an agriculture worker/business administration role involves on a day-to-day basis.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision.
Students may assist or observe trained staff with the following activities:
- Assisting trained staff with related customer service tasks as instructed.
- Engaging in manual labour.
- Completing all tasks as assigned by trained staff.
Students will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices under the supervision of the workplace supervisor. The business has a team of diverse occupations, and this gives the student an excellent chance to be hands on a lot of the time in a variety of job roles- business administration and agricultural services. Where students are not completing a relevant VET qualification, they may only undertake tasks and duties as mentioned in the Department’s guidelines for work experience with animals.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their school subject. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- general module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Punctuality is important and any planned or unplanned absences must be reported to both the workplace supervisor and the school contact for Work Experience.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. All Personal Protective Equipment required to complete daily tasks and duties will be discussed with the student as part of the placement induction.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form. A typical day in the store will consist of the hours 9.00am -3.30pm. If there are opportunities for the student to travel with the workplace supervisor on farm consultancy visits, an earlier start or later finish will be required.
