Typical Tasks & Duties
For students interested in Sports and Rec:
As a Teaching Aide (Assistant) you would directly assist the Physical Education Teacher. This would include assisting with the conduct of recreation events or activities and undertake administration work related to the work environment at the School. Each day would commence with students in a classroom environment (first two periods) then for the remainder of the day delivering Sport, Fitness and Recreation activities. The student will over the course of the day assist teaching staff by preparing classroom activities, setting up and packing up of games, conducting student warm ups before activities and supervising during games all under the guidance of the Physical Education Teacher in charge. The student may undertake the following tasks: - Organise and complete daily work activities - Provide first aid - Participate in workplace health and safety - Assist with activity sessions - Respond to emergency situations - Work effectively in sport, fitness and recreation environments - Maintain sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge - Provide equipment for activities - Maintain, sport, fitness and recreation facilities - Provide first point of contact - Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks.
For students interested in working in the classroom:
-classroom observation
-working with small groups of students with a focus on a particular topic
-supporting children with a range of needs in the classroom
-mentoring students
-preparing activites
- Assisting with various admin tasks
-connecting with and devlopling meaningful relationships with students, families and staff
Student Requirements
A positive attitude towards sport, fitness and recreation, particularly as a Physical Education Aide (Assistant) with a keen eye for detail. Students must be self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instructions. Students must be well-mannered and behave in a respectful, responsible manner and be punctual. They are also expected to follow management instructions; act according to Occupational Health and Safety requirements; work as a team member; listen and take advice from fellow workers; respect other people's belongings. Finally, they need to keep a notepad and pen to take notes for their own reference; demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course; and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.
Dress Requirements
sports and rec: The student must be well presented and required to wear sport clothing as follows: -Flat, non-slip, enclosed shoes - Casual neat sport dress.
classroom teachers aide: Casual-neat and closed toe shoes.
