An exciting opportunity exists for a Work Experience Placement with a locally owned and managed engineering business in Rochester. Students will benefit from the welcoming environment, as management is a supporter of the School To Work Program. Because it is a small business, an enthusiastic student will have the chance to be involved in a broad range of tasks. This is definitely a placement for those who are hands on.
Skills You Might Learn
The student will observe the use of hand tools and power tools, measuring and calculating, technical drawings, thermal cutting, welding and safety in the workplace
Applying principles of occupational health and safety in the work environment
Interpreting technical drawings
Learning to work with others in a manufacturing/engineering related environment
The student will also have the opportunity to learn and observe all fabrication techniques
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students in this position will observe and assist the supervisor in a range of tasks to complete basic fabrication techniques. They will tidy work sites and produce basic engineering components. The student will be required to be an active participant in all work place practices.
Student Requirements
Students must be eager and interested in learning and developing new skills
Must be pro-active and enjoy problem solving
The student must also be reliable and punctual
Dress Requirements
Student to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place plus sturdy work boots.
Special Transport Requirements
Student to make own transportation arrangements
