This placement will allow students to engage within a Health Care Worker role which may include the areas of district nursing, aged care, health assessment, dentistry, maternal child health services, administration, recreation and wellness, kitchen and catering services and facility maintenance. There may be opportunities to pursue further studies at East Grampians Health Services through an application of a Certificate III in Individual Support (Personal Care/Health Care Worker) or Diploma of Nursing after the successful completion of an SWL placement.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Students may undertake specific tasks and duties as part of their structured workplace learning only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and are required to undergo specific assessments outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- Assisting EGHS trained staff with related activities as instructed.
- Completing related cleaning, set up and packing away tasks as assigned by EGHS trained staff.
- Students can expect to shadow trained staff in aged care, podiatry programs, exercise programs and catering and maintenance routines.
- Engaging with EGHS personnel, community members, clients, specialised service staff and external health services representatives as instructed by trained staff.
Student Requirements
Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course Community Services, Allied Health, Business Administration, Building and Construction and/or Hospitality.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Students are required to have a keen interest in the healthcare sector.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully.
- Students must notify the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absences. This includes making a time to discuss extending the placement period if assessment requires a certain number of hours or days to be completed.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
- Privacy and Confidentiality policy clauses prevent personal mobile phones usage while interacting with staff, volunteers or clientele.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area of Health Care Worker roles.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or course assessment tasks to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
All students undertaking a SWL placement with EGHS will be required to wear their school uniform on placement days. This ensures students are easily identifiable to both EHGS staff and patients.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
