Brimbank Libraries offer a set number of Year 10 work experience placements each year which often fill up quickly. They are offered across four library branches: Deer Park, St Albans, Sunshine and Sydenham.
Skills You Might Learn
During the placement, students will develop:
Customer service and communication skills
Basic library operations, including shelving, cataloging, and assisting patrons
Digital literacy and research skills
Teamwork and workplace etiquette in a professional setting
Typical Tasks & Duties
The main objective is to observe and learn rather than undertake activities that require extensive training or experience.
• Support Customer Service, greet visitors, assist with inquiries, and direct patrons.
• Assist with Library Operations, Sort, shelve books, and help maintain collections.
• Develop Digital Skills, learn to use library catalogues and assist with basic tech queries.
• Engage in Community Activities, Observe and support library events and programs.
Student Requirements
To apply for Year 10 placement with us you must be:
enrolled in Year 10
15 years of age or older
a resident or student in Brimbank.

Students should dress in neat, professional attire appropriate for a public-facing environment. This includes:
Smart casual clothing (e.g., collared shirts, blouses, neat pants, or skirts)
Closed-toe shoes for safety
A name badge (if provided by the school or library)
Special Transport Requirements
Students should plan their journey in advance. Brimbank Libraries are accessible via public transport, and students are encouraged to use trains or buses if needed. Those being dropped off should ensure they arrive on time.
