Typical Tasks & Duties
As a Primary School Teaching Aide (Assistant) you would directly assist the Primary School Teacher. The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Primary School Teachers assisting with general tasks and duties in the day to day work activities. This may include assisting with the conduct of educational activities at Primary School Grades and undertake administration work related to the work environment at the institution. Each day would be with students in a classroom environment assisting with educational activities providing support to students under teacher supervision while practicing and embracing the school's values.
The student may observe and assist with the following tasks and duties;
• Create, set-up, run and pack-up classroom educational activities.
• To assist in the supervision of students outside of the classroom on the playground, during bathroom breaks, at lunch time and on field trips.
• General administration duties.
• Organise and complete daily work activities.
• Participate in workplace health and safety.
• Assist with activity sessions.
• Provide quality service.
• Respond to emergency situations.
• Provide first point of contact.
• Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Primary School Teaching and in particular as an Primary School Teacher Aide (Assistant) with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE Opportunity to develop skills learned from their study program.
Whilst the students is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
Important Note: the student must adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and be respectful at all times.
Dress Requirements
The student must be well presented as follows;
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed shoes as work shoes.
• Casual neat professional attire.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
