Stawell Gold Mines is located approximately 240 km northwest of Melbourne, 70 km southeast of Horsham and 2 km east of the Stawell CBD. All surface and underground infrastructure associated with the site’s operations are located within the MIN5260 lease area. Stawell Gold Mines has operated at its current location since 1981, which has involved the progressive mining of gold in a series of open pits and extensive underground workings. The surface operations are situated adjacent to the eastern boundary of the Stawell Township and encompass an approximate area of 380 ha. The site’s underground workings extend from the Magdala portal in a north-westerly direction underneath Stawell township.
Stawell Gold Mine has a thrilling Fitter & Turner Boilermaker opportunity available for a student to undertake as a Work Experience placement. The student will gather valuable experience developing the knowledge of fitting, assembling, grinding/shaping metal parts and subassemblies to fabrication for production machines and other equipment. Typical Tasks & Duties
Students may assist or observe trained staff with the following activities:
- Assisting SGM trained staff with related mechanical and maintenance activities
- Completing all related tasks as assigned by SGM trained staff
- Assisting Stawell Gold Mine staff with related activities throughout departments
- Use cutting and shaping tools and machining equipment to produce assembly parts
- Basic introduction of tools, machinery and materials
- Completing all cleaning, preparation and packing away tasks as assigned by trained Stawell Gold Mine staff
Student Requirements
The following requirements must be met;
- Students must be able to spend extended periods on their feet
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team
- Students are required to have good hand-eye coordination
- Students are required to have a strong interest in manufacturing and industrial sectors
- Students must be interested to learn and be able to follow instructions
- Students must have the ability to follow safety standards
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area
Dress Requirements
Dress requirements will be discussed with the successful student prior to commencement. Appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety policy and procedure. Wear workwear that is comfortable and practical for work in a workshop- closed in toe and heel shoes/steel capped work boots.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
