Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Automotive Sales Trades Assistant - Farm Machinery, you would be assisting in the interpretation and supply of spare parts for farm machinery including John Deere tractors, as well as many other brands of stocked equipment. You will work alongside qualified employees who have benefited from specialist John Deere Factory parts training. You will work with the team who provide exceptional customer service and parts support to customers and the service department. You will learn to source and identify parts using electronic catalogues, manuals and data bases. You will also develop skills to allow you to promote and sell machinery parts and related products.

Task and duties may include but not be limited to the following;
• Work effectively with others in the workplace.
• Following all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
• Communicate effectively in the workplace.
• Respond to customer needs and enquiries in the workplace.
• Search data bases.
• Take and enter orders and quotes.
• Maintain a safe and tidy work area.
• High quality customer service via phone and face to face enquiries.
• Promoting and selling products.
• Invoicing of goods and services.
• Managing stock and daily orders and ensuring stock inventory levels are adequate.
• Verify shipping receipts and stock orders against inventory.
• Liaising with the Service Department to ensure parts are available for service work.
• Liaising with the Sales Department to ensure parts and accessories are available for new machines and equipment.
• Preparing and maintaining the showroom and merchandise displays.
• Following all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Automotive Sales Trades Assistant - Farm Machinery with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subject in Automotive.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Hi visual shirt.
• Steel capped work boots.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
