This placement provides students with hands-on exposure to the electrical and air conditioning trade. Students will observe and assist qualified tradespeople with tasks related to installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and air conditioning units in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Assisting with basic wiring tasks under supervision

Observing installation of air conditioning units and electrical fittings

Handing tools and materials to tradespeople

Learning to read simple electrical plans and circuit diagrams

Assisting with troubleshooting and identifying electrical faults

Cleaning up work areas and maintaining safe, tidy environments

Shadowing safety checks and compliance inspections

Student Requirements

Interest in electrical or mechanical work

Willingness to listen and follow instructions

Basic numeracy and literacy skills

Physical fitness for lifting, bending, and standing for long periods

Punctuality and reliability

Dress Requirements

High visibility shirt or vest

Long pants and long-sleeved shirt (cotton preferred)

Steel-capped safety boots

Hat and sunscreen for outdoor work

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be provided, but students should bring their own gloves and safety glasses if possible

Special Transport Requirements

Student is responsible for arranging own transport to and from the site

Check in advance if public transport is accessible or if carpooling is possible

Confirm start and end times and location with the employer before starting
