HBI Constructions
Work experience with a builder provides students with practical exposure to the construction industry. Participants will observe and assist in various aspects of building and carpentry under supervision, gaining an understanding of construction processes, workplace expectations, and safety standards.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Assist with basic manual labour (e.g. lifting, carrying, tidying worksite)
Observe framing, concreting, plastering, and other trades
Help with measuring and marking materials
Pass tools and materials to qualified tradespeople
Clean and prepare the site at the beginning and end of the day
Attend team briefings and follow directions from supervisors
Ask questions to learn about building plans and project stages
Student Requirements
Parental/guardian permission
School’s work experience approval form
Completion of relevant safety modules (e.g. Safe@Work)
Steel cap boots and appropriate work clothing
Good physical fitness and willingness to follow instructions
Respectful attitude and interest in building and construction
Dress Requirements
High-visibility shirt or vest
Steel-capped safety boots
Long work pants
Hard hat (usually provided on-site)
Sunscreen and hat (if working outdoors)
No jewellery; hair tied back
Special Transport Requirements
Arrange transport in advance (public transport, car drop-off, cycling if safe)
Site location may vary if the builder operates across multiple locations
Confirm daily start times and addresses with the builder prior to commencement
Students must not operate vehicles or machinery
