Students will have opportunities to explore basic automotive systems, tools, and workshop processes, and get a behind the scenes look at how a workshop operates. It is also ideal for students who like tinkering, problem solving, taking things apart, and putting them back together.

Alongside practical learning, students will build key workplace skills such as teamwork, reliability, and clear communication, helping them strengthen their social skills and prepare for future work in any industry.

Student Requirements

Students selected for the Hand Brake Turn placement must be available on Thursdays. They should be prepared to work in a hands-on workshop environment, follow safety instructions, and commit to attending all sessions. Suitable attire, such as enclosed shoes and clothes that can get dirty, is required. Students should also demonstrate basic teamwork and communication skills.

Dress Requirements

Closed sensible shoes and pants. Clothes that students are ok with getting dirty. If students currently own steel cap boots, they are encouraged to wear them.

Special Transport Requirements

Hand Brake Turn can help to facilitate transport to the placements including local pick up/drop offs or having a meeting point at sunshine station.
