Typical Tasks & Duties
Students may undertake tasks and typical duties only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and the structured workplace learning will allow them to obtain or further develop the skills and knowledge outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- Assisting Ararat Rural City Council trained staff with related facilities management and maintenance activities.
- Engaging with customers related to facilities and maintenance activities as advised by Ararat Rural City Council trained staff.
- Completing all related tasks as assigned by Ararat Rural City Council trained staff.
- Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
Student Requirements
Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students must have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules in their Industry and Enterprise subject or the OH&S module in the relevant VET course, along with completed Construction Induction Training (White Card).
- Students are required to have a keen interest in construction, facilities management and maintenance.
- Work will be physical and students will occasionally be required to assist the workplace supervisor during outside activities. Students must remain at ground level and take no risks when power
equipment and/or machines are in operation.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area of Construction.
- Work as a productive team member and have skills in effective communication.
- Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
- Respect other people’s belongings.
- Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their VET course or school subject.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or take course assessment tasks to the work placement every day.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. Protective, industrial Clothing including safety boots will be required.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
