This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of family run farm, involved in agribusiness. You will be working alongside the owners of this 7500 acre property, with opportunities to learn aspects of sustainable farming in sheep and wool production. The successful student will also have the chance to network with farming professionals and experience pasture management and cropping of stock feed. This exciting opportunity will be available for a set time frame and due to the seasonality of the farm work, student attendance will need to be negotiated with the host employer. - Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Students could be involved in basic domestic staff duties, assisting with feeding livestock, care for health and welfare of livestock, moving and drafting livestock and other general farm tasks such as mechanical and machinery operations and farm maintenance. Students may undertake specific tasks and duties as part of their workplace learning only if they are completing a relevant VET qualification and are required to undergo specific assessments outlined in a relevant unit of competency within the qualification. Where students are not completing a relevant VET qualification, they may only undertake structured workplace learning tasks and duties as mentioned in the Department’s guidelines for work experience with animals.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their Work-Related Skills subject. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- General module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Students will need to wear long pants and shirts, and protective work boots. Wet weather gear will be needed in wetter months. A hat and sunscreen are essential for working outdoors. Appropriate PPE must be worn in accordance with WHS policy and procedure.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
