YMCA Whittlesea
The Y Whittlesea is a learning focused organization and we recognize the value of students being given the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. As part of Inclusion Services we have a number of programs for children and adults with a disability. The YMCA Whittlesea exists to serve and strengthen the community, they strive to make a positive difference by providing each and every person opportunities to be healthy, happy and connected.
They have over 450 staff across the community and around 20 volunteers. With programs in areas such Aquatics, Healthy Living, Sport & Recreation, Childrens Services, Inclusion Services and Youth Services, they provide opportunities for over 2 million participations each year.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Placements can be tailored to meet individual interests, skills, and placement requirements through:
- Participating on program/scheduled activity, including:
- Shadow/observe and assist staff working on program to provide support and assistance to participants as required; this include complementing and supporting planning of activities, encouraging and promoting independent choices, interaction with other participant and involvement/engagement in various activities as part of program
- Program planning followed by activity delivery, for example:
- Preparation for holiday program inc, activity review, participant info and staff support, resource coordination and pre-program set up; post program review, feedback, marketing support
Student Requirements
Prior to commencing placement we require students complete mandatory checks and training, including:
- Only if over 18 yo - NDIS Worker Screening check ; Working with Children Check (volunteer or employee)
- Safeguarding Children and Young people and NDIS Orientation module - online training that can be completed prior or as part of Induction
Other:

- commitment to developing new skills and participating in programs/activities;
- desire to develop a mutual relationship based on interest rather than skills;
