This SWL opportunity is at a well-known party hire supplier located on High st in Melton. Students will have the opportunity to learn a wide range skills and gain hands-on work experience. The work placement will take place at the store and off-site. A SWL student can get hands on experience in all things events. This would include exposure to differing tools in setting up large event equipment and can give students an understanding of both the construction and electrical aspects of large marquee events including the sound and lighting set ups. Casual work may be available for students who show they are work ready.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will be able to gain a wide range of skills that they can use in their VCAL program and include in their resume. Some of these are working as part of a team, following instructions and working to deadlines. Other skills include safe lifting techniques, using basic tools and equipment, problem-solving and using technology.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The SWL student will be involved in setting up equipment off site that would include marquees, sound and lighting equipment and event fencing. There will be a lot of variety as the daily jobs whilst working in the store can include tasks such as unpacking deliveries, packing for the next event and routine maintenance.

Student Requirements

In order to get the most out of this opportunity students should be flexible and team-focused, fit and healthy. They will need to be prepared to travel off site and work outdoors. SWL students should be
hands-on with an interest in sound equipment and setting up for events and entertainment. This placement would be most appropriate for students doing courses that involve electrical, event management, technology, and/or a basic construction course.

Dress Requirements

SWL students interested in this opportunity need to have work wear and work boots. Other PPE, such as hi-vis vests and hard hats will be provided by the employer.
