Skills You Might Learn

By observing the routine tasks and duties performed by a Dental Assistant, students will become familiar with all aspects of the operation of a dental clinic and learn the terminology commonly used in a dental practice. Students will learn about appropriate patient care, correct patient interaction, strict hygiene protocols and professional behaviour required in a dental setting.

Typical Tasks & Duties

This placement will enable students to become familiar with the day-to-day duties performed by a Dental Assistant. Students will observe the following routine tasks and duties routinely performed by a Dental Assistant including...
• Greeting and preparing patients for dental procedures
• Sterilising and organising of dental tools
• Preparation of examination rooms between appointments
• Ensuring all necessary equipment is ready
• Assisting dentists during procedures
• Passing instruments and materials to the dentist
• Updating and maintaining patient dental records
Students may also assemble post-op packs and undertake some cleaning duties.

Student Requirements

To gain the most value from this work experience placement, students will ideally have a keen interest in dentistry and patient care. Perhaps you are undertaking a Certificate II in Allied Health or have aspirations of one day becoming a Dentist.

Dress Requirements

Black neat casual clothing including pants and a shirt with close toed shoes. Hair must be tied back neatly.

Langmore Dental Clinic is accessible via public transport and is close to Berwick train station.
